Susan Baca Crowe ’69 Endows Scholarship for Future Students
Susan Baca Crowe dedicated her life to the study and teaching of the French language. After graduating from Seton Hill University in 1969 with a degree in French, she spent her career teaching middle and high school French for the Garnet Valley School District.
To the students she came to know over her nearly four decades of teaching, she was known as “Madame.” She was beloved by those she taught, considering her students to be her children and keeping in close touch with many of them after they graduated. After her retirement in 2007, Susan suffered a medical issue. When one of her former students and friends posted an item about Madame in a Garnet Valley alumni publication, dozens of former students sent get well messages, cards, and gifts.
Crowe was a devout Catholic and very active in her church. She also enjoyed traveling, theatre, acts of service, and philanthropy. Before her death in October 2023, her final act of philanthropy was to establish the Susan Baca Crowe ’69 Endowed Memorial Scholarship, intended to help future generations of students in need complete their education at Seton Hill.
